In the 70’s Shorty Coffman and I would catch 100 White Bass a day on Tuttle.

A friend Richard and I went to Oregon to catch big sturgeon. Like catching 400 lb. flathead!
Tarpon, Red Fish, Jacks and Tuna! I’ve had surgery 3 times on my shoulder. We know why!
25 years ago, I could catch 12 keeper walleyes on a good day.

If you’ve only fished in Kansas, fishing 300’ deep for 300 lb. fish is more work than you think!
Fishing has changed through time and with video and YouTube the young anglers spend most of their time searching for the big fish. Nothing wrong with that but for us older guys 20 fish in a morning was exciting. I’ve caught as many as 65 fish in a morning. With Live Feed, Side Scan and Spot Knot, fishing is far different than the old days.

Back in the Day
When I was 14 years of age I bought my first guitar from Sears. Guitar and case with amp cost $67.95. I wanted to be like Elvis and Ricky Nelson and played all their 45’s on my mom’s stereo over and over again. Drove her absolutely crazy. After listening to each song 10 time’s, I knew the words and tune forever and to this day I remember all the songs. After learning the basics on the guitar, I looked to fellow classmates and friends in school to start Wamego’s first Rock and Roll band. I needed a bass (Greg), lead (Norman) and a drummer (Ronnie) and I would play rhythm guitar and lead singer. After a few sessions we became The Citation’s, a four-piece band. The name came from an ironing board cover for sale at the Western Auto store in Wamego. Now it was 1963 and as you can see, we were looking good.
Through high school I played with a number of classmates and in different bands and also played as a solo singer in nightclubs. After high school I spent a few years out on the road with my guitar. As I look back through time I would certainly say “It was the best years of my life“. Young, exciting, great music and lots of girls, who would complain about that? It was truly fun to be on stage at that young age. Then one day I realized that I was never going to be a star. It was time to think about tomorrow and making a living and having something at the end. I knew one in a million made it big. Looking back, I realize the smartest thing I did was to go to Manhattan, KS in 1970 and open the Cavalier Club, the hottest club in Aggieville!

Between the ages of 9 and 12 years old I would buy all of Elvis’s 45’s at the local grocery store right down the street. I would sit in mom’s rocker and listen to the songs over and over again. My dad left when I was eight years old and I think music was a way to cope. By the time I was 18 I knew the words to most of Elvis’s songs. They are still there today!
With today’s technology you can buy all the original tracks of all songs without the main vocal and record your own. I recorded these songs just a few years ago. Didn’t have to practice, there still there today.
