Back in the 90’s Harold Ensley asked me to go fishing with him and two of his fishing buddies from Kansas City. These guys were all 35 to 40 years older than me. I was just a rookie at the time. Quepos was known for rooster fish that hung out around large rock formations miles from shore. Live mullet was the bait. We would drift past these rock piles and all of us would hook up. There also were Amberjacks, Tuna and some large snapper that would hit the mullet. We fished this area for three days and then went to catch sailfish, tuna and marlin a few miles further out. Sardines were everywhere around these rocks. These fish were 20 to 40 pounds. On this tackle you could wear yourself out. These friends were very competitive and would argue about who caught the most crappie at Truman Dam. They had been fishing together since the 1950’s. It was a great week for weather and fun and what a memory.

The depth around this rock pile was 150 to 200 feet deep.
There was also some Black Fin Tuna lurking in the shadows and the Jacks were everywhere.
We were using Ambassadeur 5000 reel / 30 lb. Braid.

Harold and I clicked and would have great conversations about life and fishing. He knew that I had a passion for catching fish. One time in Canada I made him a bet about total of fish caught during the day. I won that bet and he made a big deal out of it from that time on.
