The Lake was still relatively young back in those days with great numbers of all species. I fished the tubes a lot but also, I had a boat at the spillway marina and was catching tons of white bass, crappie and flatheads. The crappie and white bass were fantastic in those days. So many boats on the lake at that time fishing. Something you don’t see today. Between the tubes and the lake, I could take my pick on which place was hot that day. Crappie fishing was good everywhere on the lake, even around my boat dock. You could troll along the east banks and catch white bass. Kick back and wait for the pole to bend. After the 1993 flood, the north end of the lake changed drastically. It filled in most of the old river channel and the current lines after the rains slowly started to disappear. Back then when the water came in from the north it would create current lines just south of the one-mile bridge. Also, the rains would create trash lines where you could park your boat right next to and catch 30 fish in a morning. Those days are long gone forever.
Life was good in the 1970’s. Making money, fishing, boats and a new car every year for my birthday. Lucky as hell to live such a life!
